This is recommended for those who have not yet had the privilege of preparing a child for these first sacramental celebrations or for those who desire a more traditional approach to Sacrament Preparation.

Children’s component

  • Regular participation in Religious Education through a Catholic school or parish.
  • Additional materials to be completed at home with help from parents
  • For Penance:
    • 2 hours of catechesis in regularly meeting religion classroom (either in school or the parish)
    • One 2.5 hour retreat (includes a run-through of the sacrament)
  • For Holy Communion:
    • 3 hours of catechesis in their regularly meeting religion classroom (either in school or the parish)
    • One 2.5 hour retreat
    • Practice for Holy Communion

Adult Component

  •  Viewing of information about the sacraments presented digitally in short segments
  •  Short online form which will be completed and submitted digitally
  •  Option for 1-1 conversation regarding the subject matter
  •  One 2.5 hour retreat for Penance (Held at the same time as your child)
  •  One 2.5 hour retreat for Holy Communion (Held at the same time as your child)
  •  Practice for Holy Communion

Family component

  •  Attend Mass at least weekly
  •  Attend parish penance services at least once per year
  •  Participate in one or more of the parish/school outreach efforts
  •  Help children memorize prayers
  •  Pray as a family

  • First Holy Communion Retreat: Sunday February 11 th 12:30 pm – 3:00 pm
